DGL Sports Photography Blog bio picture
  • David G. Lewis’ Sports Photography Blog

Thanks for visiting my sports photography blog. I fell in love with photography when I took my first class at the University of Southern Mississippi in 1993. I have had a camera in my hand ever since.

When the college newspaper hired me to photograph the school's sporting events I thought I was in a dream. There I was on the field photographing college sports. This led me to writing and photographing for two newspapers after college, which I did for four years. I’ve since left the newspaper world, though I do some freelance work.

My wife (Debra) and I have been doing wedding and family photography since 2005, but the desire to go back to sports photography is just too strong and that is the idea behind this blog. With your help I can get the word out that I’m available to photograph your athlete, team's, or school's sporting events. If I have been to one of your events and you would like more information about my services, please click on the “Contact David” tab above and I’ll be glad to talk to you.

If you would like to see Debra’s and my other site then visit http://www.teamdglphoto.com

    Sincerely,

    David

Too busy to blog

I suppose it is a good problem to have, but one that should be fixed. I have had so much work recently, I haven’t had time to blog. While I’m watching some parents see their child’s paticipation in organized sports come to an end, I’m seeing mine just begining. My oldest son, Gordon, had his first soccer practice yesterday. Let the recruiting begin!

I saw a great basketball game Saturday that saw Concordia’s boys basketball team come from 11 down at the start of the fourth quarter and eight with just over 4 minutes to go, to win by one and escape to the second round of the playoffs. I thought I would video the last bit of the game and post it here on my blog. However, I didn’t buy my cameras for video purposes and so I had never used it. Little did I know that you had to set up the recording settings for it to actually record to the memory card. So that bummed me out as I was so excited to put together a little slideshow with some video showing the ending of the game.

If you want to see photos of the game and the others from the season, click on the girls’ photo in the post below and it will navigate you to the boys photos as well.

I had a corportate event on Saturday night and senior/sportrate session Sunday afternoon. I’ll be posting some photos Sunday’s session on my facebook page and eventually here as well.

Start out fast and coast to victory

Welcome back! After spending the past year rehabbing from a torn ACL Lauren Terry made her first appearance on the court Friday night. Congrats on a great accomplishment.

The Concordia girls jumped out to a 24-0 lead in the first half Friday night against Tyler Grace before pulling back on the throtle and winning 49-25. This will be the last girls game I photograph this year and will be cheering from afar as they start to travel across this big state to neutral courts. Good Luck, Ladies!

A short tribute to Concordia’s soccer season

I was bumbed to hear that the boys and girls Crusader soccer teams lost in the playoffs yesterday. I put together some random (and a I do mean random) photos form this year in three-minute slideshow. Enjoy!

Introducing SPORTrait Sessions

I’ve been wanting to introduce Sportrait Sessions for a while and finally booking sessions.

I have done both sports photography and portraite work since 1993 when I took my first photography class in college and started working for the college paper. I am now combining the two together. Click on the one minute video below to learn more.

Crusader boys have easy going to start playoffs

Concordia's Reding Denison strikes the ball scoring the second of two second-half goals in the rain Friday night.

It didn’t take long to realize that Concordia was going to have it easy in the first round of the playoffs. They won 7-1, giving up a late goal, to advance to the second round of the playoffs. This will be the last soccer game I photograph this year. So best of luck to both the boys and girls teams. I know the girls won, but I don’t know what the score was.
